8 Tips For Working Remotely
A list of 8 simple tips to make the most out of your remote working experience.
No matter if you are studying or working remotely, we all have had difficult moments where it seems impossible to stay focused. These moments are simply unavoidable. But that does not mean we do not have any control. We can still decide to adopt new habits to make the most of our working situation. We want to help you in doing this by giving you 8 useful tips to work efficiently from home and keep living a healthy lifestyle. Are you curious? It’s only a short read but could turn your daily life around.
1. No Phone Zone
We know this is a cliché, but it is also very true. Putting your phone on silent mode, and somewhere out of sight can be very useful when it comes to concentration. As the saying goes: “Out of sight, out of mind.” Especially with the many statistics proving how addictive phones can be, it is so important to be aware of this issue and to actively try to resist it as much as we can. You will see that once you do this, concentrating will become much easier. As a reward, you can of course always give yourself a 5-minute break on your phone every hour if needed.
2. Clean Your Working Space
Make sure you keep your workspace as clean as possible. The cleaner your room the clearer your mind will be. It is very important to get rid of any possible distractions and to keep the same level of cleanliness you have at your office at your home workspace too. Recreating the same working atmosphere as at the office will make it easier for you to get into that same work mindset. We recommend you make a daily habit out of cleaning your workspace. By simply getting up 10 minutes earlier every day you can quickly clean your workspace before you start working to ensure you start every day with a clear mind.
3. Surround Yourself With Motivated People
Working by yourself can often turn into being less productive and motivated. That’s why if you live with others you should try working together. For those who live alone, you can also work with others but it will have to be online through a video call. We really recommend doing this, as working together with others and experiencing the work atmosphere can be a great way to motivate yourself to do the same. To go beyond that, you could even set up common rules that everyone has to comply with. You could for example decide to have a 15-minutes break together every two hours if everyone worked well and achieved their personal target within that time. Creating and achieving these common goals as a group will make you feel like you are not alone in this and will help you create a more positive mindset. In this group environment, you can create the most suitable work-life balance to keep your motivation the highest possible in the long run.
4. Get in Contact with Nature
You might be surprised by the effect nature can have on your work environment. One of the things that is very important to know is the role of natural light. Natural light helps our bodies create Vitamine D, which is key to our physical and mental health. That’s why you should consider working somewhere in the room where you know there will be the most sunlight during the course of the day. Next to sunlight, it has been proven that having plants in the workspace can decrease stress levels, and increase well-being and productivity. Plants not only turn a room into a more peaceful environment but also release oxygen, which is important to increase the air quality inside your workspace. If for some reason you cannot get a plant, a second alternative could be opening your window to get the necessary oxygen to be productive.
5. Create a Planning
Creating a to-do list is another must to ensure you get the most out of your day. It can be very helpful to create a weekly to-do list. On top of that, creating a daily, more detailed to-do list to know on an hourly basis what you should be working on can also be extremely helpful. This way you can organize yourself well to make sure you know what to expect, how to manage your time well, and most importantly achieve your deadlines.
6. Sit Correctly
We all know it can be very tempting to lay down in bed whilst working from home but we should try to not fall into this trap. Mixing this relaxing position with work usually is not a good match. You should try to sit on a chair in front of a desk to get into the same work mentality as at this office. When you do this, it is very important to sit straight to avoid eventual back pain. Sitting straight not only avoids back pain but also has other benefits. These benefits include increased energy levels, fewer headaches, less tension in your shoulders and neck, and improved circulation and digestion. Studies have also shown that good posture increases your self-confidence. It is a very simple thing to do and has many great outcomes, so why not give it a try?
7. Don’t Forget About Physical Movement
To ensure your physical health remains optimal whilst working from home, it is also very important to keep moving enough. Nowadays, it is very easy to find sports sessions online, so nothing should be stopping you. Try to first figure out what kind of exercise you like doing. That might be yoga, Zumba, or a HIIT workout session for you. Once you have figured out what you want to do, it is time to get started. Keep in mind that the minimum amount of daily physical activity recommended is 30 minutes. You will see that once you get into it, even with 30 minutes a day will, you will start feeling the difference. Not only will your stress levels decrease, but you will also get a mood booster, energy burst, improved memory, and increased productivity. Sounds pretty great, doesn’t it?
8. Eat The Right Food
